Impacts/Effects Today
Today, many people study and perform ballet purely because of pointe. Pointe shoes had a huge impact on the study of dance and the way technical things are executed. With pointe, a dancers arms and legs look longer and leaner from the stage. Pointe shoes help dances develop muscle and build strength. Pointe shoes also inspire young girls and keep them motivated. Because you get to pointe shoes around the age of 12, young girls have to work hard in order to get their instructor's permission to dance on pointe. Negative affects today include plantar fasciitis, tendinitis, bunions, and other foot/ankle related injuries. Overall, pointe changed dance for the better and worse. But most importantly, they allow dancers to create a more beautiful image on the stage.
