Purpose
The purpose of pointe shoes is to make the dancer appear weightless while dancing on the tips of their toes for extended periods of time. Pointe shoes elongate dancers limbs and strengthen their legs and feet.

Who Used It
It was used by female dancers who trained in ballet. They were, and still are, not worn by small children because excessive ankle strength is needed in order to dance on pointe.
